Owl Ring DeliverySo, when the couple said their wedding rings were to be flown down the aisle by owls, I was excited. They were getting married at The Tithe Barn in Petersfield, which is massive. It’s has very super high gothic arches, not unlike a church. I just had pictures of the owl going straight up into the rafters. Perhaps sitting up there all day with said wedding rings. I was hoping that they might do something naughty. As a wedding photographer, who has photographed around about 400 weddings in the West Sussex, Hampshire area, its quite fun. I have never seen the owls delivering wedding rings, ever … so, this was new to me!
The Set UpSo, CSR Falconry http://www.csrfalconry.co.uk/ are the company who have owls to deliver wedding rings. They are very professional and they stay at the end of the aisle and come out of a hiding place right at the correct moment. When the registrar says, now does the bestman have the rings? It’s quite fun, when he says no. The guests are usually surprised and have no idea that the owls are going to fly the rings up the aisle. The CSR Falconry lady, Clare, has two birds, one to fly and one other to be held afterwards. As soon as the bestman says, “no, I don’t have the wedding rings”. The Groom puts on a leather glove and the CSR Falconry lady lets the owl free. The owl has the rings tied to his claws and he lands on the Groom’s glove, usually must to the hilarity of the crowd. Look at the bestman to the left in the photos below; hysterical. I also shot two Grooms’ wedding at the Old Thorns Hotel. As a wedding photographer, I’m always amazed at how organised the staff are up at Old Thorns. They can have 3 weddings go on a the same time and cater for them all. So, when they opened the doors, the crowd were in awe of this beautiful white owl, which arrived through the doors to deliver the rings. One ring came off just as it made it to the Groom’s glove and fell on the floor much to everyone’s delight. It all added to the drama.
Oh what a treat! In mid-July, I was able to rent the Lordington Lavender fields for 6 hours and shoot many families, babies, in white cotton!
What happens on a minishoot?
The light got better and better, with the sun going down around 8 pm, just over the top of the hill. The bees were noisy and busy but none of them attacked us. The best things about photographing families, especially if they have small kids, is that they can’t be posed really or fake around the kids as it doesn’t work. Kids tend to run free and do what they want. The are unaffected by a photographer, or their camera!, unless they want to see the photographs, which many do these days as they are quite used to cameras. I always say no, otherwise, they want to see each photo you take.
When can I go to the lavender?Everyone seemed to be quite taken with the view and the smell. All the families were relaxed. We had the shots between mid July and beginning of August, as the lavender had to be mown and used. I tend to think that the lavender is just there to be photographed and enjoyed, which is silly really. Lordington Lavender make lovely products and use their lavender for other products made by other companies. This is a yearly thing and we only really get to be in the lavender for 2-3 weeks of the year. Lucky me to have this field so close to where I live in West Sussex, Chichester.
How much does it cost? How do I get in touch? Thanks to the friend bought some Prosecco for afterwards and the little baby arrived at the end. To be honest, as a photographer, this is as good as it gets … the colour, light, smiles, relaxedness and just, warm light. Nature at its best .. only Bluebells can beat this for me! Anyway, next year, let me know if you want to come, £95 for 20 minutes with 10 images retouched – hi-res. Email at firstname.lastname@example.org or go to http://www.gaudions.co.uk also for wedding photographer for Hampshire, West Sussex or Surrey.
Amy & James: They are to be married tomorrow at Bartleys Lodge The weather has taken a turn for the worse and now better. Was super sunny, then rainy, now has changed to cloudy and a bit windy – which we can deal with! I look forward to meeting Amy and the girls at home tomorrow morning at 11 and a ceremony at Bartley Lodge at 1 pm, with drinks and partying into the night. Am excited to be at a semi-new venue; I shot here years ago; but was about 10 years previously, so will obviously be slightly different and be seeing it with fresh eyes. Bit about the venue: Steeped in history, the Grade II Bartley Lodge Hotel is situated on the outskirts of the beautiful New Forest near Lyndhurst. Set in 8 acres of stunning grounds with a meandering driveway, our 18th century lodge is the perfect setting for relaxing breaks, wedding celebrations and corporate events and meetings. Children and pet pooches welcome. In fact, bring the entire family. See you in the morning kids!
Mark and Becky got married on 29th April 2017at the Royal Marines Museum on the seafront in Southsea. The Museum is impressive and grand. They had planned a 1950’s wedding and wanted a period venue so the Museum fit the bill. I think I actually referred them to the Museum too; so a bonus. Being a wedding photographer in hampshire, its quite hard to find properties with this amount of grandeur and history for a wedding, so it was great as the museum fit the bill. Everything about their wedding to their polkadot bridesmaids dresses and shoes, and Grease page boys fit perfectly into the theme. The cars were 1950’s Cadillacs and they were able to come with the roof down as it was a beautifully sunny day! Her mum’s photo was in a special locket. All of the guests were in 1950’s wedding attire and the room in the Museum was incredible. Becky had sourced LP 1950’s styled centre pieces, with icecream sundaes made out of carnations! It was so colourful.
We went to Orlando, Florida USA. We booked through Thomas Cook. This was to 3rd visit here, the last time we visited we actually got engaged there so we had to go back. We hired a mustang and explored Florida. We knew there was more to Orlando then theme parks and it was amazing.
YOUR SHORT WEDDING TIP TO OTHER COUPLESOur tip is don’t be afraid to be different, make sure your wedding is about what you both love. Make sure you also have a fab photographer that captures the day for you, you get what you pay for!
SHORT TESTIMONIALCannot thank Ali enough for not only capturing our day perfectly but also looking after us. She mixed in with the guests and made so many people laugh all day. She made sure she took us away for a breather and she got some great pictures. She also looked after me, making sure I had something to eat and drink as I was constantly busy. I knew she was the photographer for us as soon as we met her, book her!!We really struggled at first trying to get suppliers and items for our non traditional wedding, but it was really fun finding suppliers that were willing to help us. You wouldn’t believe some of the responses we got along the way because it was a different type of wedding! But we met some fantastic people running small businesses that were willing to help us bring our vision to life.

Another wedding at Southend Wedding Barn today; what a beautiful venue. They really do take care of their property. I was just looking back over the 50 odd weddings I’ve shot here and they just keep on adding. I particularly love the manicured garden at the side with the water feature. The lovely thing about Southend Barns is the amount of area for your guests to roam. Wedding guests enjoy wandering around and perhaps sitting on steps, either just after the ceremony or just after. The amount of different places for guests to stand and sit are plenty at Southend Barns.
Wedding Grass GamesYou have enough space at Southend to play outdoor Jenga, hola hoops and I have even see a company set up an entire crazy golf! Although this did take up the entire middle lawn , thereby not giving much space for group photos. I have also seen a bike ridden icecream cart which served an entire wedding numbering 150 during a two hour wedding reception.
Daniel & Laura got married in Hampshire at a beautiful, stunning barn called The Tithe Barn. The barn has a massive field in front, and enjoys views across miles of countryside. It is a true rural wedding venue. The barn has been beautifully decked out and Laura chose Someflower for her flowers, which were absolutely gorgeous in lilacs and pinks. The tall arrangements on the tables looked stunning. Her mum looked incredibly beautiful and had a dress from FAbFrocks of Bournemouth. Being a Hampshire Wedding Photographer, it is sometimes hard to work within both counties. Driving from Hedge End through West Sussex to the Tithe Barn was worrying as it was quite far, but there were no problems at all. The girls got ready extra early to make sure we got photos before I left..The boys arrived in style, as did the bride, with Premier Cars of Bournemouth (it was a bit nippy) so make sure you have a covered car as the bride did arrive frozen! Although Laura did come from Hedge End, which is around a 30-40 minute drive from the Tithe Barn. I always say that perhaps 20 minutes is the most you want to be in the bridal car as the bride is usually nervous and any longer could put her over the edge! The boys were in kilts and Daniel was in full Marine uniform, which added some grandeur to the ceremony. Everyone cried throughout the service and drinks were served outside with large, scrummy canapes by Wright Catering who are a staple at the Tithe Barn. Wright Catering always work hard and I recommend them highly.
YOUR STORYDaniel and I met in college when were 16 years old but never knew each other properly. We just used to see each other around until one college party when we met and had a cheeky kiss. Then when I saw Daniel at college the next day he was too shy to say hello! Apparently he had a crush on me but never had the confidence to ask me out. So whenever I saw him he would go all red and not speak. We then went our separate ways until we were 23 and his friend asked me out. Before saying yes I decided to have a nose on facebook and then saw he was friends with Daniel who had deleted me!!! So I added him and then a few days later I had a message from him asking me out. So that was it I didn’t meet the other lad and Daniel and I have been together ever since. It was obviously meant to be! You could say our relationship process was quite quick because after 9 months of being together we then bought a house and then came the engagement then our lovely dog Reggie. Then came the wedding planning! We went and looked at a few places and Tithe barn was the last. Daniel though it was going to be too far away but as soon as we got there I knew it was the one. It was the most beautiful venue we had seen and everyone there is so helpful and friendly. We have been ever so lucky with all the kind people we have got to meet along the way.
YOUR SUPPLIERSWe cannot fault any of our suppliers for our wedding day. Everyone was absolutely fantastic. Laurel designs was amazing with creating our beautiful stationery. The food from Wright Choice was amazing. Cant even begin to say how amazing the flowers were by Someflower. Then theres Ali Gaudion who did our photos. We got them back the other day and they are amazing too. We picked Ali because she gets all the photos you don’t expect to have taken and they are always the best ones and she did exactly that. She is a regular at The Tithe Barn as well. There was a lot of happy tears when looking at them all. We also used D & t Videos for our wedding video. They are the nicest people we have ever met and we cannot wait to see the video in a couple of weeks.
WHERE DID YOU GO ON YOUR HONEYMOON?We went to El Dorado Royale Castitas for our honeymoon in Rivera Maya. It was absolutely beautiful there and we would recommend it to anyone for a honeymoon. They couldn’t do enough for us when we were there! We had our own infinity pool in our bedroom as well as the one downstairs which was used just for our section. So it was always nice and quiet and there wasn’t one day where we couldn’t get a sun bed. Every staff member there was really friendly and they would say always hello as you walked past. Because we are quite young to be lucky enough to go on a honeymoon like that we were worried we were going to be treated a bit different but we weren’t at all. We got surprise champagne in our room a few days throughout and they made it a great experience for a honeymoon. We both had a couples massage when we were there and that was fantastic too. Couldn’t fault the hotel or Mexico. We would love to go back! http://www.eldoradosparesorts.com/hotels-and-resorts/el-dorado-casitas-royale.html

Venue ChoiceAs Manager of the Goodwood Racing Club, it is hard sometimes to choose where to get married. Do you go with the Goodwood House option or something different. Alan knew he wanted to have his party at the famous building at the Goodwood Track, but chose the distinguished and grand facade of Wiston House near Steyning as his wedding venue. It offered grandiosity of Goodwood House but no the sameness of other staff members’ weddings.
Weather and ThemeThe day was January 2nd, and a gloomy, rainy day it was. Jen, who also works at Goodwood Hotel, and ID Make Up in Chichester attended ot her needs. She got ready at the hotel and had a gold sequinned theme for the entire wedding; it was absolutely beautiful and fit it well with the season or sparkle and warmth. Rolls Royce driven, the boys met in the library of Wiston House awaiting their guests.
Wiston House Wedding VenueThe ceremony was held in a extremely high vaulted hall with tremendously high windows which allowed the light to stream in from all sides. The balcony allowed my second shooter Nicki to get some glorious shots from above. Drinks were held in the library rooms afterwards, and photos were attempted outside in the wind! The Bridal party were very hardy in attempting this and we got some fabulous windy shots. The orangery was light and airy with foilage for family shots. The guests arrived and their cars were pimped out with racing numbers then were given 2 laps of the track, hollering and screaming as they passed! The SUPERSHELL building at the track was decked out in lights, gold sequins and the party rocked out through the night. We were able to get an amazing sunset shot at the end. Check out the group shot on the track with all the cars!
